Where Winds Meet: Great Hero’s Trial Guide (Wandering Tales Walkthrough)

Here is a guide on how to complete the Great Hero's Trial in Where Winds Meet. This wandering tale was one of the first ones I discovered while exploring the starting area. Follow along and I’ll show you how to find this quest, the steps you need to take to complete it, and the rewards you’ll earn for finishing it.

Before we get started, some of you may be asking, ‘What is a wandering tale?’ A wandering tale is a form of exploration in the game. You’ll encounter many of them as you explore. You simply interact with someone or something, and that begins a chain of steps you’ll need to complete in order to finish the quest.

The Wandering Tales section can be found from the main menu. Look underneath the Story section and select the Journal tab. From there, cycle over to the Wandering Tales. Select it, and you’ll see a generous list of tales to find and complete! Below is a picture of what you should be looking for if you’re interested in taking part in these adventures.

Step One – Finding the Wandering Tale

The first step is finding the start of this tale. You’ll want to travel back to where you first began the game in the bamboo forest. Teleport to the Bamboo Retreat. The exact map location is pictured below.

Look directly behind you toward the worn-down house, and begin traveling past it.

Once you pass the house, you should come across a waterfall. Carefully make your way down the rocks beside it to reach the bottom. Be cautious while doing this so you don’t accidentally break your ankle, that can apparently happen, speaking from experience lol.

Once you reach the bottom, look around until you spot a shrine pavilion. Below is an image of what you should be looking for.

Underneath that shrine pavilion is a girl named Rongrong. Speak with her, and she will tell you that a secret hero manual is hidden somewhere nearby. To obtain it, you must pass the hero’s three tests: cut down the thickest tree, scale the ladderless tower, and bring down the highest bird.

Step Two – Completing the Hero’s Trials

Now that you’ve started the Hero’s Trial tale, let’s go ahead and complete the hero’s three tests.

Cut Down the Thickest Tree

Let’s start with the first hero’s test. This one is pretty easy to find. From the shrine pavilion, turn to the right and make your way around the waterfall to the other side. The exact map location is pictured below.

As you reach the other side of the waterfall, you’ll see a non-bamboo tree with a thick trunk.

You’ll need to chop this tree down. Just use your weapon and start swinging, it should fall after two or three hits. Once it drops, you’ll receive the ‘Proof’ tag you need.

Scale the Ladderless Tower

Now for the next hero’s test. Start by traveling back toward the shrine pavilion. Continue past the pavilion along the shoreline until you reach a small camp. The exact map location is pictured below.

You should come across a tower right before you reach the camp.

Climb up the tower to the very top. There are sections of wood and planks jutting out all around it, use these to your advantage as you scale upward. This part isn’t too tricky. Once you reach the top, you’ll be able to collect the ‘Hero’ tag.

Bring Down the Highest Bird

Now it’s time to complete the final hero’s test. You’ll need to teleport to the Northern Bamboo Grove Teleport. The exact map location is pictured below.

Travel up the hill behind you until you reach a large rock. As you get closer, you'll receive a dialogue prompt mentioning that the white bird above you has something tied to its leg.

You’ll need to shoot down this bird in order to get the tag.

Once you’ve shot down the bird, you’ll receive the ‘Of’ tag.

Step Three – Claiming Your Rewards

Now that you’ve collected all three tags, travel back to Rongrong. Speak with her, and a ‘Give’ option should appear.

Go ahead and select that option. This will prompt you to give her all three of the tags.

Submit these tags to her to officially complete the quest.

This will complete the Bamboo Abode Part 1 – Great Hero's Trial entry in your Wandering Tales tab. Make sure to go claim your rewards.

You should receive these four rewards upon claiming them.

And just like that, you’ve completed a Wandering Tale!
